Welcome to the official Edison's Children F.A.Q. - We wiil try to answer some common questions for you about everything that is "Edison's Children"

What does "Edison's Children" actually mean?

In many ways... we are all the "Children of Edison". When you pick up your new iPhone or watch your LED TV or listen to Edison's Children's new Double-Vinyl Album "The Disturbance Fields" you are listening to ... watching ... and living in the next generations of all of those original inventions of Thomas Edison (and so many others) who worked with electricity in the late 19th and early 20th century to build the first phonograph and the first cameras and even the first generation of computers which would one day become all of our "modern conveniences" that are now just a normal part of our world.

The band focused in on Edison because of his particular use of electricity in music (creating the phonograph) etc... and also there was already a band called Tesla (which we sound nothing at all like) so we didn't want to make any sort of connection with the already well known Arena Rock band.

We understand that Edison did a few things that aren't particularly looked upon today with a sense of being humane. By dubbing ourselves "Edison's Children" it is not condoning every one of Edison's actions... it is simply referring to the fact that we are all the children of "invention" and that is something that we all in today's iPhone/1080 4k TV/social media generation share.

Who named the band Edison's Children?

Pete Trewavas had just come awoken and came down to our lovely little Ocean City Maryland beach house turned recording studio and looked at all the music leads and wires now hanging everywhere off the chandelier ... across the fireplace... around the kitchen and exclaimed... "Look at this place! Where would we be without Thomas Edison? We are like Edison's Children..." and that was it. We became Edison's Children from that day forward.

Is Edison's Children part of the Marillion family?

Edison's Children is indeed one of the official "side projects" of Marillion.

Our 1st album "In The Last Waking Moments..." is the only album to ever feature every member of Marillion (Pete, h, Mark, Ian and Rothers) and not be an official "Marillion album".

To make things even more interesting ... the album also features Fish's lead guitarist Robin Boult as well!

What was the name of Edison's Children before they became Edison's Children?

The "working name of the band" was either going to be "The Disturbance Fields" or "Random Disturbance" and there are photos of the 1st album with those names on them as the name of the band. Of course the band would release their 4th album "The Disturbance Fields" in homage to the original name and the Record Company behind Edison's Children has been Random Disturbance Records.

Is the son of the First Man on the Moon, Neil Armstrong ( aka the first Man on the Moon ) really in Edison's Children?
Is the son of an Astronaut a member of Edison's Children?

Yes...
Neil Armstrong's son
Rick Armstrong is a full time member of Edison's Children and has been since he performed on stage with us in Montreal in 2013. Rick was one of the very first people to get behind the unique sci-fi sound of Edison's Children and is one of the prestigious "Inaugural Children".

You can find out all about Rick and how he came to be a part of Edison's Children on his EC Bio page "
RICK ARMSTRONG"

I see "Inaugural Fan #14" or Edison's Children "Inaugural Fan" or "Inaugural Children" listed in booklets next to people's names.
Can I become an Inaugural fan? How do you get to be an Inaugural fan?

Before Edison's Children released their first album, they had done a pre-order which was at the time was a bit of a "chance" because no one knew what Edison's Children would wind up sounding like on the album (even we didn't really know yet)... yet 75 fans donated towards the project ordering the album "sight un-seen" and were rewarded with an "inaugural fan T-Shirt" ... one of the rarest and most prestigious items in the Edison's Children catalogue. Only 79 were made... and they will never be made again (and are obviously sold out). (Eric Pete and Wendy have the extras for themselves).

The artwork behind Edison's Children's amazing artwork is always credited to "Wendy Darling" ... why is she known as Wendy "Darling" and isn't that sort of "stealing" from Steve Hogarth's encore song of Marbles... "Neverland" (even though it of course originates from Peter Pan).

It was Steve Hogarth himself who personally dubbed our Wendy Blackwood as "Wendy Darling" when he put her in his personal special thanks section of the "Sounds That Can't Be Made" album. He had always called her that in the past (and has been known to seek her out on stage when singing that Wen-dy dy-dy moment on stage) but Steve wanted it to be in "writing" and she was officially dubbed thee... by the truly gifted "Mr. h" himself in his album thank you's (where he also sends out his sincere thanks and love to Eric Blackwood as well). Being named as Wendy Darling on STCBM was sincerely an honor that can't be made.

In h's books of diary's he often refers to "Eric and Wendy" and them driving Marillion around all over the globe and his ever "squeaky breaks". He is actually talking about Edison's Children's Eric Blackwood and Wendy Darling when he refers to Eric or Wendy in his diaries.
